Apple’s iPad 1.

Whilst we promote Apple and use primarily Mac for our own business operations,
we are trying to be open and honest in our evaluation of this product. This data is
relevant to the iPad v1. Many of the issues have been overcome in iPad 2 and such
developments are duly noted.

Is it really the all doing, multi functional mobile device that it is promoted as? The
answer to these questions, is probably a resounding “no”, however this is the first
generation of an amazing new technology. iPad 2 is an amazing improvement

Specs
- Height: 24.28cm;  Width; 18.97cm Depth; 1.34cm
- Weight; 0.68kg (Wifi model) 0.75kg (WiFi = 3G model)

Cons -

 The most notable and confusing omission is that is doesn't have a camera.
Such an amazing mobile device would be great for web chatting, Skype, etc.,
but alas no camera.
(Maybe in iPad G2)

 It is actually quite large, about the size of an A4 piece of paper,
and could become weighty when holding it one handed for any time.

 Whilst it has native High Definition video playback it doesn't
have a video output, you cannot connect it to an external or larger
screen or TV and play video in high definition.

 It does not have a memory card slot or reader, so you cannot
load your digital camera photos directly to the iPad, you can only do
it when it is docked to a computer or has a memory card reader attached
to it. iPad 2 now has accessory USB port and SD card readers available.

 The iPhone like keyboard was known to be problematic even in
the design stages, it may not be as simple as it seems. There is
always the external keyboard, like the card reader
available as an accessory you can purchase. Click Here

 Unlike the Mac or PC that you have been using to date, on the
iPad you can only do one function at a time, much like the iPhone.
This may not be a problem for some, but it will be for many.
Perhaps the iOS 4 software will change that.

 Neither model has a GPS function, another confusing omission.
In an age where GPS is very popular and handy, the iPad has Wifi,
but no GPS capability.

 The processing speed is not as fast as many currently available
netbooks, but it is good.

 Software for word processing, spreadsheets, etc. not included.
Works for Mac has been made usable for the iPad, but isn't
included with it, however can be downloaded from Apple for a price.

 No CD or DVD input device, you cannot install directly to the
iPad but need to go through a computer or download the software
from the Net.

 The 3G model of the iPad has really poor video quality, it seems
that the video quality is far lower than o the standard version and
yet the 3G version. You will discover that this video quality issue is
no longer an issue in iPad 2 as it has far greater graphics power.

Pros -

 It is physically tough and can withstand knocks and strong
bumps and if dropped, should survive unscathed. Still, as with most
computers, should be treated with due care.

 Its resolution and backlit LED screen provide great viewing,
even from an angle. It has an ambient light sensor so it self adjusts
to lighting conditions. Sensational.

 Power it has a 25Watt hour rechargeable lithium-polymer
battery, that should be good for 9-10hrs work time, using 3Gm,
surfing the Net, watching video, etc. Which is great.

 The Applications available for the iPad are projected to exceed
those currently available for the iPhone, of course the full versions
cost money so through iTunes. (It keeps you spending)

 Great Mail attachment support, through the Apple Mail program
you can read .jpeg, .gif & .tiff images; doc & docx (Word); .key
(Keynote; .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Adobe
Acrobat); .ppt. pps & .pptx (Powerpoint); .txt (Text); .rtf (Rich Text
Format); .vcf (contact data); xls & xlsx (Excel) So this is quite
functional.

 Accessories, the projection is that the iPad will have more
accessories than the iPhone, including a keyboard, a stand, a USB
dock, a memory card reader, etc. However these are not yet
available.

 Photos, the iPad displays photos really well, it has a terrific
slideshow function that is exceptional, but it does not have a
camera so it cannot take the photos, just display them.

 Screen Lock, it has a screen lock switch that enable you to lock
the screen in portrait or landscape mode so that it doesn't switch
unprompted.
