Computer Back Ups
Backing up your computer is a very important and an all too often under rated process.
Many people think that their computer system is fine, their data is safe and they need not worry because their computer is so efficient and quick. Invariably their data is not as safe as they think. The data, photos, letters, music, documents, etc, are only really safe if they are back up or copied off to an external location, be it an external hard drive, USB drive, a CD, DVD or BlueRay Disk.
Apple think that backing up is so important that they build a back system called Time Machine, into their Operating system. This facility will only back up to an external device, preferably an external hard drive. Microsoft have finally caught up with Apple and now, in Windows 7, have implemented a backup system that also will only back up to and external drive.
Apple Time Machine Back Up
Choose System Preferences from your Applications Menu and then choose Time Machine.
As the graphic below shows this gives you a window that allows you to -
- Set up your back up
- Select the External device to back up to
- To vary the schedule of the back up
- Informs you of the oldest backup, latest backup and the next backup
- Allows you to turn the backup facility off.
Note: that Time Machine backup are only relevant to the system you are using.
